Grandfathered ChatGPT Pro 200 keeps the old included allowance only through October 29

author-reported source re-read 2026-10-29

Why this label: Primary claims are OpenAI's own Help Center wording (grandfather window, Oct 29 cutoff, lower allowance, same $200). We re-read that page on 2026-10-29 HKT and reproduced nothing. Community "half / 20x→10x" figures are labeled suspected only.

Tried
Stay on ChatGPT Pro 200 (including Codex / Work usage tied to the plan) expecting the previous higher included allowance to continue at $200/month.
Broke
OpenAI documents that after October 29, 2026, grandfathered Pro 200 subscriptions move to the lower included usage allowance while the price stays $200/month. Only affected users get an email with extra details. The help page does not publish the exact "half" multiplier community posts quote — it says "lower included usage allowance." Credits can cover some Codex/Work usage after included allowance, but do not restore every ChatGPT model limit.
Cause
  • confirmed OpenAI Help Center "About ChatGPT Pro tiers" (updated ~2026-10-28): grandfathering for Pro 200 active any time from Sep 22 through 10 a.m. PT Sep 29, 2026; previous allowance usable through Oct 29, 2026; then lower allowance at same $200.
  • confirmed Same page: new Pro 200 subscriptions not eligible for grandfathering include a lower usage allowance; Pro 500 ($500) is the Ultrafast tier; Ultrafast on Astra/Sol burns included usage at 8× Standard.
  • suspected Public X posts on 2026-10-28 claim Codex/Work drop from 20× Plus to 10× Plus. That multiplier is community report; OpenAI's help page we re-read does not state those numbers.

“Confirmed” means the source states it as established; “suspected” means the source treats it as a theory or it is unsettled. We did not verify either ourselves.

Fix
Read OpenAI's Pro tiers help page for your account's eligibility window. After Oct 29, plan for the lower included allowance at $200, buy credits where Settings → Usage shows them for Codex/Work, or move to Pro 500 / another provider if you need more headroom. Do not assume Support can reset limits — the same page says they cannot.
Prevention
Treat plan marketing and grandfather emails as time-boxed. Before a heavy Codex week, check Settings → Usage and the Pro tiers help page for whether you are still on the previous allowance. Pace multi-agent runs knowing Ultrafast and Fast modes burn included usage faster (8× and 2.5× Standard per the help page).
